Over four years ago, Dubai-based Devel unveiled the Devel Sixteen at the Dubai Motor Show. We were, uh, skeptical that it would actually amount to a real, running car. Mind you, we still are, but there’s a new video that at least shows the thing appearing to run under its own power.
Of course, a six-second video doesn’t really give us that much to go by, but we do see a car driving itself, with the raspy low revs sounding rather V8-like.
The V8 part makes sense, since the Devel Sixteen is a quad-turbocharged, 16-cylinder hypercar that’s powered by a GM LS-based engine, built by Steve Morris Engines’ drag racing shop. When we last reported on it, it is said to make 5,000 horsepower.
Hmmm. Okay.
Listen, I’d simply love a 5,000-horse, 16-cylinder hypercar. I would. I’ve just been ruined by other egregious examples of vaporware. Just open it up and show me the engine, dyno it, lap it, something. Four years of talking about this thing and all I get is a little video snippet of it? Come on, guys. I want it to be real. Hit me over the head with how real it is.
