Right now on Archive Of Our Own, the internet’s preeminent fanfiction website, there are 410 works that contain the tag “Elon Musk.” Of these, 186 feature the Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, and Boring Company CEO in a relationship, and 23 of those have him with the fic’s reader. I refuse to believe this many people are this interested in Musk’s sex life, but it gets even weirder when you start looking at plot details.
Let me first say I’m not here to put shame on you. You want a billionaire with a breeding kink to whisk you away from your office job and keep you pregnant full-time as a living baby mill? I get it, I understand that Musk famously has both the resources and the predilections to enable this specific sort of fantasy. I’m not even going to wade into the ethics of real person fiction, because I like my Tumblr account cancellation-free and there’s no stance on that debate that exists without hellfire and brimstone from all sides. But you couldn’t have picked literally any other rich guy?
Admittedly, many of the highest-kudos fics in the Elon Musk tag just have him appearing in other universes. We’ve got the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hannibal, the requisite Supernatural, Parahumans, and for some reason Garfield. Many other fics, though, are true RPF — pairing Musk with everyone from Donald Trump to Mark Zuckerberg, Ariana Grande, and Jon Arbuckle. I know that last one isn’t a real person, but it’s an example of just how weird things get around Musk on AO3.
The RPF fics are easily the wildest, with works like “Rivals on the Campaign Trail: A Tale of Forbidden Love” (an Omegaverse fic pairing Donald Trump with both Musk and Joe Biden), “My little bot boy” (Elon Musk and the Tesla bot), and “trump x elon omegaverse fic where trump gets pregnant and is forced to give birth because he banned contraceptives and abortion” (self-explanatory). I don’t know why there’s so much Omegaverse fic around Elon, aside from its general popularity, but maybe his genuine belief in the existence and superiority of “alpha males” plays a part. Also, one fic has Vriska Serket in it for some reason.
It’s heartening to see that so many of these are unserious bits, but some seem genuine in their interest in Musk. There’s even a full four-part Elon Musk/Reader series entitled Every Relationship Is Work, written over the course of nearly a year, pairing a fresh college grad with Musk while she works as his “media consultant.” There are real people using fanfic to express their real attraction to Elon Musk, a man who has a child named Techno Mechanicus.
