I was so caught up in the mouth-watering news about the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge's Nissan GT-R engine that I forgot to mention another big piece of news about Infiniti engines. Actually, it's small rather than big, but that's the point.

As Infiniti continues their revamp with the goal of becoming a top-tier luxury brands, one of the things they needed was a smaller, entry-level engine for fuel economy and emissions reasons. Having 3.7-liter and 3.5-liter V6s as your smallest engines doesn't cut it in 2014.

So at Geneva, Infiniti announced the Q50 will get a 2.0-liter turbo four as its new entry level engine, starting soon with the European and Chinese markets and the rest of the world following suit by the end of the year.

Power is set at 211 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, which is decent although it lags behind what you get in the BMW 328i, Audi A4 and the all-new Mercedes C-Class in the U.S. Perhaps it will get a power bump when it comes stateside.

The new four-banger will send power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic.
