I’m beginning to think that Mythbusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman are die-hard car nuts that go looking for the most butt-clenchingly terrifying myths they can test with Discovery Channel footing the bill. A prime example would be the fact that they made an insanely dangerous motorcycle out of a Citroën 2CV, with freaking hand tools.
On the face of it, Mythbusters is an entertainment show that sometimes foregoes scientific procedure and proper experimentation to get to the explody results. But often times, it’s a legitimately awe-inspiring hour where magic happens - this is one of those times. The subject of the show is the myth that a French man was faced with the challenge of getting home from the desert in a 2CV with two flat tires, so he tore the car apart with hand tools and crafted a motorcycle to ride to safety.
Adam and Jamie are given this exact task, without instruction, and without being able to reverse-engineer the French man’s work. I won’t spoil the end for you, but it’s one of the most rewarding episodes I’ve ever seen.

He owns the world’s cheapest Mercedes S-Class, a graffiti-bombed Lexus, and he’s the only Jalopnik author that has never driven a Miata. He also has a real name that he didn’t feel was journalist-y enough so he used a pen name and this was the best he could do.
