The 2019 Audi A6 Avant No Longer Has An Excuse Not To Be Sold In America

For fans of classy style, speed and hauling things, today’s arrival of the new 2019 Audi A6 Avant is good news. It looks good as one would expect from an Audi wagon. Sadly, we know the A6 Avant won’t make it to America, but Audi’s argument for withholding its long roof goodness is getting weaker.


The new A6 Avant comes with all the goodies Audi backs into its other models, including huge digital displays, dynamic suspension options and cloud-based communications. And since it is a wagon, buyers get up to 56 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down.

The A6 Avant is also available with two motors both hooked up to 48v mild hybrid systems for more efficiency. The gasoline-powered turbocharged V6 pumps out a respectable 335 horsepower, and there’s a V6 diesel that we don’t need to talk about.

As expected, there are no plans to bring the A6 long roof to the U.S., though if you write enough letters Audi maybe the Germans will sort of think about selling us one of the hot RS Avants. But not everyone needs or wants some super fast wagon—some of us just desire a nice luxury longroof. (Though we certainly won’t complain if Audi wanted to bring something over that will give the Panamera Sport Turismo and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S wagon some competition.)


The thing is, Audi needs to cut the crap and bring this thing stateside. It doesn’t have an excuse anymore. Not with how many luxury wagons are currently for sale in the U.S. all of a sudden.


Audi used to be the cool brand with the wagons. It still has the Allroad, which it pretends is a crossover, but let’s face it, Audi needs a real wagon. BMW sells a small wagon in America. Mercedes and Jaguar sell bigger wagons too. Volvo has not one, but two wagons for sale. Buick even sells a wagon that was made in Germany.

Buick! For God’s sake.


Audi, are you really going to let Buick steal your thunder like that?

Here is what you do, Audi, and I’m addressing you personally at this point: you bring the A6 Avant over here, add a few inches of lift and some cladding and call it an A6 Allroad then follow Volvo’s playbook and allow the folks that want the real version to order it from dealers.


We’ll give the A6 Avant a good home. We promise.
