Getting 650 horsepower and 650 torques for as little as $78,995 makes the 2015 Corvette Z06 the best deal since the Hellcats, but what's more is that GM's most powerful car to date won't even try to kill you like the old ZR1 would.
Even my short drive of a 2014 Z51 Corvette on summer tires in December was convincing enough to turn me into a C7 fan. Now, Motor Trend's Carlos Lago says the Z06 drives like that car, except for being significantly faster, especially in the corners. That sounds dynamite, just like the supercharged LT4 when you give it the beans.
Lago's Velocity Yellow test car was a Z07 with the State 2 aero kit and other extras that added $26,215 to the base price, but I have a feeling that the Z06 is the Corvette family's GT3. No need for extras unless you really want to hit the tracks about as hard as these guys.
GM went crazy, but I like it. Interestingly, the fastest Z06 you can buy is the automatic with a zero to sixty time of 2.8 seconds, but since the seven-speed manual is such a nice shifter, I would settle with 3.2.
If you choose the Z06, the fact is that a 2015 GT-R Nismo will most likely still smoke you, but who cares? Honestly, you shouldn't, because this car gives you more smiles.
