I think that at one point or another, we've all had fantasies about leading the police on a car chase. Blame too many Hollywood action movies, I guess. But one Indiana man lived out this fantasy recently, leading cops on a chase for a whole hour — while he was on a moped.
The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana reports that 40-year-old Lagrant Smith was initially stopped by an officer on Friday night for driving the wrong way down a one-way street. Then Smith refused to turn the moped off and drove away.
More officers were called in to chase him down, and Smith allegedly led them on a terrifying pursuit with speeds reaching up to 25 mph.
Smith eventually dumped the moped and fled on foot (classic rookie mistake), and that's when officers chased him down and subdued him with a Taser. He was later charged with receiving stolen property, criminal recklessness, marijuana possession, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and two counts of resisting law enforcement.
Moped crime doesn't pay.
