Sadly That 'Leaked' 2018 Mustang Bullitt Window Sticker Isn't Real (Updated)

A lot of us think Ford teased a 2018 Mustang Bullitt in a video earlier this year, and we’ve been sniffing for confirmation of the car since. Mustang fans got riled up again today as a window sticker of a 2018 Mustang Bullitt appeared online, but unfortunately, Ford has confirmed it is not legitimate.

I let myself get very excited for a second when I saw Highland Green Metallic Paint and window louvers on the sticker shared on Mustang6g forum. But then I thought long and hard and realized, yeah, no, Ford’s probably not really putting old-school window slats on its sleek and modern Mustang. And it almost definitely would not be charging $56,080 (the MSRP on the sticker) for what is essentially a dress-up package on a Mustang GT, which lists for about $37,000 with an automatic transmission.

If Ford does make a Bullitt Mustang and it costs that much, you’d be absolutely insane not to just buy a GT350 instead and spray or wrap it green.

The original Mustang6g post did also mention that the Bullitt movie actually first came out on Oct. 17 (1968), meaning we’re just a couple weeks shy of the film’s 49th anniversary. Which, I guess, would be as good a time as any to reveal a new Bullitt Mustang if it were to exist. And it well may! Even though the legitimacy of this most recent rumor has been disproven.

For those of you who have managed to be car fans without choking on the scent of Steve McQueen’s greatness yet, the guy was basically the Frank Sinatra of doing badass shit on wheels. The chase scene between a Mustang and a Charger in Bullitt, in which McQueen plays the title character Detective Frank Bullitt, is cited “as one of the best” though I must admit I think the movie is unbearably boring.

Ford has leveraged the movie’s legendary status and recognizability with a few Bullitt Mustangs over the years, which are actually all pretty cool. I don’t give a damn about Steve McQueen but dark green paint and window louvers are extremely My Shit, so I’m all about the Bullitt edition.

If you’re a fan too, I’d keep your eyes open on Oct. 17 for an official Ford announcement. If we don’t hear anything then, I’ll try and find out more at the 2018 Mustang launch party going down in early November.

Update Thursday, 5:28 p.m. ET: Reps from the Mustang6G forum have clarified that the sticker was generated by a dealer, unofficially, but maintain that this proves a 2018 Bullitt Mustang is “in Ford’s system” ergo confirming that the vehicle exists.

A 2018 Bullitt Mustang does seem like a likely product, but as long as this sticker is unofficial I don’t think it qualifies as real.
