The parade of updates to Triumph’s Retro line continues, and last but not least, let’s look at the updated Street Twin. (Tired of these yet? Neither am I.)

The 2016 Triumph Street Twin replaces the existing base Bonneville model, but the 865 cc parallel twin from the old version is replaced by a new 899 cc (they call it 900) eight-valve, high torque motor.

Despite looking like the old Bonnie and having the most similar engine, this Bonnie is new from the ground up. It gets a new chassis, new suspension, ride-by-wire throttle with traction control, slip assisted clutch, ABS, and LED lighting.

Triumph claim the new motor, which uses a 270 degree firing interval like the current Triumph Scrambler, makes 59 foot-pounds of torque as low as 3,200 rpm, an 18% gain over the current Bonneville. They also claim this model is 36% more fuel efficient.

Overall, I actually really like the look of the bike, even though fake fins and carbs are silly. Word for a source at Triumph is that the new engines are smaller and that even the bigger bikes weigh the same (510 pounds or so) as the current Bonnies despite the water cooled engine and new exhaust, which is future proofed against Euro 4 and Euro 5 emissions standards.

The Scrambler Inspiration Kit includes a Vance & Hines high pipe (for offroad use only), rear mudguard eliminator, brown ribbed seat, brown grips, compact signals, and a brushed aluminum sump guard.

No word yet on official weight or pricing, but that should be announced at EICMA. Until then, here are some more pics.
