Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution II GSR, Studebaker Champion, Ducati 1098S: The Dopest Vehicles I Found For Sale Online
A couple of imports, a seriously quick superbike and some classics.
Another week means another entry into our series featuring the sweet cars I found for sale online.
To compile this list, I search as much of Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist as I can for interesting vehicles that don't cost a lot. They may be hilariously unreliable, remarkably unusual, questionably tuned, or maybe something else that stops me in my tracks. Prices for some cars are trending higher due to currently out-of-control used car prices, but I think some good deals are still out there.
1953 Ford Crestline Victoria - $10,500
Car design of 1950s is chock full of vehicles that look like they could take off and carry you into space. This 1953 Ford Crestline Victoria is no exception, and it has been lowered slightly, making look even better. It's like something you'd see in an old movie set in the future.
This example is said to have a 10-foot paint job, a fresh interior and a solid underbody. It's $10,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Hamilton, Ohio.
1992 Toyota Crown Super Deluxe - $6,500
The Crown is Toyota's line of luxurious family haulers, up from the Mark cars and down from the Century. These weren't super flashy like you'd expect a luxury car to be. Instead, they were comfortable cruisers. This Crown Super Deluxe wagon appears to be in pretty good condition, but the seller doesn't note what options it has.
It's a reasonable $6,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with 96,000 miles.
2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Cavallino Launch Edition - $8,000
Here's a version of Fiat's hot hatch that I didn't even know existed. The Fiat 500 Abarth Cavallino Launch Edition was a dealer variant, a cosmetics package that added a hood port and NACA vent. You also got a sizable wing out back, some graphics, and a dash plaque that indicates which car out of the 100 made is yours.
This one appears to be in good shape and is said to only have minor cosmetic damage. It's $8,000 on Facebook Marketplace Northville, Michigan, with 80,000 miles.
1985 Ford Econoline Centurion - $7,000
The Ford Econoline E-350 Centurion conversion is a couple of vehicles in one. It is a luxury conversion van and dually pickup truck in one. Converted by Michigan-based Centurion vehicles, these are delightfully absurd with head-turning looks.
This one isn't in perfect condition, but looks to be ready for some toy hauling. It's $7,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Elroy, Wisconsin, with 114,000 miles.
1979 Honda Gold Wing - $2,800
The Gold Wing wasn't always known as the closest thing you can get to a car while still on a motorcycle. Old Gold Wings, like this GL1000, were speedy cruisers with that distinctive flat-four poking out of the sides. They're especially fun as a naked cruiser like this 1979 model.
Old bikes often come with old bike problems, but thankfully, this one has been given a rebuild from the paint down to the engine oil rings. It's $2,800 on Facebook Marketplace in Capitola, California, with 61,000 miles.
2008 Ducati 1098S - $9,500
Here's a superbike cranking 160 horsepower from a 90-degree v-twin and drenched in alluring Italian motorcycle looks. This 1098S comes with a full carbon fiber body and some tasteful upgrades. If you don't like those upgrades, it also comes with all of the factory parts, too!
It's said to have gotten oil changes every 2,500 miles and is $9,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Iron Ridge, Wisconsin, with 9,300 miles.
1994 Lancer Evolution GSR - $15,000
This week's enthusiast car is a popular JDM import that doesn't cost a fortune. This Lancer Evolution GSR is Mitsubishi's second generation of its WRC homologation special. It's powered by a 2.0-liter inline four pumping out 256 HP through a manual transmission.
This one is shown to have some wear and a list of mods, but nothing that looks like it couldn't be reversed. Weirdly, the car's spent some time in the UK before reaching America. It's priced cheaper than a dealership at $15,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Mt Horeb, Wisconsin, with about 89,000 miles.
2008 Pontiac Solstice GXP - $9,900
The Pontiac Solstice was a sporty roadster built in the marque's final years. The base car is cool enough but the GXP is even better. It sports a 260 HP 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four mated to a manual transmission.
This is the same engine found in cars like the Chevy HHR SS, Cobalt SS and this car's sibling, the Saturn Sky Redline. Here, it dispatches 0 to 60 times in mid 5 second times.
It's $9,900 on Craigslist in Las Vegas, Nevada, with 88,000 miles.
1939 Studebaker Champion
The Studebaker Champion is a full-size car that helped pull Studebaker out of its Great Depression slump. It's powered by a 2.7-liter straight six making 78 HP. Amazingly, this one is said to be mostly original, including its paint, which seems to have some shine left in it.
It's $11, 500 on Facebook Marketplace in Dyer, Indiana, with 50,550 miles.
That's it for this week! Have you purchased a car from one of these posts? If so, I want to know.
If you know of a weird car for sale on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, drop it down in the comments or send it along in an email! If the car's still for sale, we may feature it on a future post.
