Making A Tire Out Of Coke Bottles Is A Magical Trainwreck I Can't Look Away From

There isn’t a single alternate universe out there where making a tire out of plastic coke bottles should work, but that’s what makes this strange Russian car experiment so fascinating. I know it won’t work, but I can’t look away. I want to see how and when it will fail, and the results deliver.

Garage 54—basically The Red Green Show of Russia—decided to replace a rear wheel with a circle of flimsy plastic coke bottles filled with liquid. Of course, this idea came about after they tried freezing coke cans only to find that their frozen Coke-cicles had popped the cans and made a big mess. So, they had to make their mess another way. (Sidenote: either this man is living his best bachelor life, or has the most understanding family and/or housemates ever.)

Perhaps testing this out on one of the Mercedes’ drive wheels wasn’t the best idea. Alternately, maybe it was a great idea, because the potential for failure was even better.

Not even adding more tape could keep the bottles from leaking, or sliding off the rim. I have to admire his dedication to this idea, though. You know it won’t work, but the show must go on.
