BMW is honoring one of its most renowned nameplates well. The M5 "30 Jahre M5" 30th anniversary edition looks really good. Better still, it makes a ton of power. In fact, it's the most powerful production BMW ever. Happy, happy birthday!
We found out yesterday that the M5 30th anniversary edition packs 600 horses, but BMW now confirms with all the details and official pics that this $138,275 beast will also have 516 lb.-ft. of torque and a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds. And all from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8.
In addition to the standard car's available Competition Pack, the M5 Anniversary also gets Frozen Dark Silver paint, a black leather/Alcantara interior and a ton of badges letting everyone know you're getting 1 of the 300 special M5s – and only 30 destined for the U.S.
People who do plunk down the cash for one get an invitation to the M Driving School program at The Thermal Club in Palm Springs, Calif. this fall. That's what your 600 horsepower is for.
Weirdly, BMW is selling the first 29 U.S.-bound M5 anniversary cars through a special hotline that will be revealed on their Instagram account. That 800 number goes live at 1 p.m. EDT on May 21.
Hurry, this offer won't last and supplies are limited... is what I feel like should be said right now.
