Nissan has long tagged their Maxima large sedan as the "4 Door Sports Car," but it hasn't really been that in a long time, if it ever was at all. But with this new 2016 Maxima, the car Nissan surprise-revealed in their Super Bowl ad, it kind of looks the part.
Nissan dropped two photos of the 2016 Maxima this morning, confirmed its debut at the New York Auto Show, and then told us... nothing else. At this time, there's no official specs on the new car.
The current Maxima has their ubiquitous 3.5-liter V6 pumping 290 horsepower to the front wheels. I'd bank on that engine sticking around for this car, though I'd love to see an all-wheel drive version, or better yet even rear-wheel drive, although I know that's incredibly unlikely.
I don't hate the way it looks. It's pretty visually striking as far as large sedans go. It apes some design cues from the new 2015 Nissan Murano, which is also pretty out there compared to most mall-crawling crossovers.
We'll see more in New York in April.
