A Detroit man in his 60s was stabbed inside a gas station on the city's northwest side Saturday morning while a couple of customers stood and watched nearby. One of the customers is shown in the surveillance footage asking for his change as the scuffle unfolds.

According to WDIV, the police say the suspect is around 18-years-old.

The 64-year-old, who remains hospitalized, was first confronted outside the gas station near the Lodge Freeway and 8 Mile Road before it spilled back inside, WDIV reports.

Police officials and the owner of the gas station both told WDIV the two witnesses more than likely could've stepped in to grab the suspect and disarm him.

Detroit police are still attempting to locate the suspect and the two witnesses.

Update: The suspect, a 27-year-old who police say live in the area of the gas station, has been arrested, MLive reports. Interim Police Chief Chester Logan told reporters that civilians have no obligation to intervene in situations like this. "I don't want any citizen to put themselves in jeopardy... It's difficult for me to say what I would do on a situation like this. I certainly couldn't blame citizens for just sitting in back," he reportedly said.
