The Jeep Commander's top tow rating is 7,200 pounds. A semi-truck, trailer, and cargo can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. This disabled big rig looks pretty heavily loaded, yet the SUV is making a solid effort of lugging it up Route 83.
Commander's "7,200 pound" tow rating was exclusively achievable with the 5.7 HEMI V8. The 4.7 could pull 6,500 and the smallest 3.7 V6 was only rated to 3,500 pounds. It's pretty much impossible to tell which variant the Jeep in this video is... though chrome trim on the side and rear grab handles makes me think it is indeed a range-topping HEMI. Can anybody spot a badge in this grainy footage?
Can't imagine the SUV would survive much speed or distance with this kind of load and I really hope the truck's brakes are still working when it comes time to stop, but I dare say the feat is impressive. At least I know the guy filming agrees with me, listen to how fired up he is!
