Hello, my name is Tavarish, and I'm a gearhead. I often have dirty nails, oil-stained jeans and have cursed more than one should in the vicinity of God-fearing neighbors during futile efforts of removing stubborn bolts. However, it has come to my attention that most people aren't like me. The question to my car-loving brethren and sistren: Why not wrench?
The more I write, the more I realize a vocal majority of readers rely on warranties and shops to get even the most rudimentary maintenance done, and the strapping do-it-yourselfers are few and far between. Obviously I understand that not everyone has time for everything. There's only a finite amount of time we have on this planet, and some would prefer to spend time with their loved ones, rather than be underneath an old rusty chassis (I'm not actually sure these people exist), but as car enthusiasts, would it not add to the experience to get down and dirty with the mechanical or cosmetic components of the cars you and I so adore?
I'd love to hear your responses, as I'm genuinely curious to know why more people aren't engaged physically with repairing and modifying their cars themselves.

He owns the world's cheapest Mercedes S-Class, a graffiti-bombed Lexus, and he's the only Jalopnik author that has never driven a Miata. He also has a real name that he didn't feel was journalist-y enough so he used a pen name and this was the best he could do.
