Huge Front Wing Compensates For Scion tC’s FWD

How do you get a FWD Scion tC to put 900+ HP to the track effectively? With a ginormous front wing. Chris Rado's modification to this Time Attack racer makes total sense, but it's still ugly.

Thanks to that wing, the Chris Rado Scion tC holds a handful of front-wheel drive track records, most importantly at Willow Springs, where it managed a 1:22.623 time.

Maybe my engineering mind is playing tricks on me but couldn't he get away with a smaller wing that is connected directly to the suspension bits or the spindles and be just as effective?
