The latest Corvette has gotten a lot of heat about its design, particularly the squared-off tail lights. "It looks like a Camaro!" the critics shout. "Too square!" they cry. "Change bad, round better!" they yell.

Too bad, GM says. Despite potentially hailing from 1997, Corvette Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion says that the abrupt change was absolutely intentional in the video above:

At the back end, most importantly we wanted a game-changer there... to give the car a very unique light signature at night with some very unique tail lamps, that would also show off the new LED technology.

So there you go, straight from the horses' mouth. It is unique, on purpose, it's got new LEDs, and you're just going to have to like it.

Unless you're a big square.
