Sad news out of Pikes Peak this weekend: 54-year-old motorcycle rider Bobby Goodin, who was airlifted to a hospital following a crash Sunday, has died, according to reports.

Colorado Springs' The Gazette reports Goodin lost control as he slowed on the gravel parking lot atop Pikes Peak a few moments after crossing the finish line. The crash apparently launched him off his bike and onto a large rocky downslope.

Goodin, of Flower Mound, Texas, was treated by EMTs onsite and later airlifted to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The newspaper reports this was Goodin's second time competing at Pikes Peak. It is the first time since 1982 that a motorcyclist has died at the race.
