The fact that the 2019 Mazda Miata is a Good Car is one of those undeniable facts in automotivedom. Miata is an ultra-meta acronym for “Miata Is Always The Answer” because it is always the answer. It’s an incredibly nimble, fun to drive, and versatile sports car that works as well in daily commuting as it does on a weekend drive in the mountains.
As Road & Track pointed out yesterday, Miata sales aren’t fantastic. Only 8,971 Americans brought home a new Miata in 2018, which is a marked decline from the 11,294 sold in 2017 and 9,465 units sold in 2016.
We aren’t doing our part to keep the fun small sports car alive, folks. Get on the phone with your local Mazda dealer and order a 2019 Club 6MT in Soul Red [with the good engine] like a true American. And dammit, don’t get the RF.
There are tons of great sporty cars that saw sales declines across 2019, as noted by goodcarbadcar.net’s data. In fact, there is a lot more red on their list than there is green. Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, BMW 2-series, Toyota 86, 370Z, Audi TT, and NSX sales are all down double digits over 2017.
What is going on? Why aren’t we buying sports cars anymore? Get your act together, people!
