Austin loves old Benzes, especially the W126 560 SEL. And what better way to beat gas prices than to put a greasecar conversion on an old Mercedes diesel? Answer: turn it into a Mercedes-greasecar-amino, but we digress. This is a very special kind of old Benz, an obscure 1979 truck called the L409, and you can buy it now for only $5,555. It's in Oxnard and it's not registered in the US, but it does come with customs papers. Take that, Stefan Ericsson! More after the jump:
Here's the good news — since it's more than 25 years old it can be registered as a historic vehicle, so that should make it pretty easy to get a license plate. And the seller is offering to "smog it" (whatever that means to you Californians) for free. But the awesom-est part about this three-door, seven-passenger truck is the enthusiasm the seller has for some of its finer features. "72 mph!!! TWIN TIRES IN THE REAR." But really, this is a pretty sweet truck, it claims a mere 84,000 km on the odometer, and there's almost no rust. So if you're not going to buy it, email Spinelli and tell him to get some cash from the powers-that-be and make it the official Jalopnik keg-hauler.
