If its his daily and he does 12k+ miles a year in it for just himself, then yeah. But the nuance is, if its a weekender doing 1k miles a year with passengers etc. hes probably less a gas hog then a daily drive econo car doing 5 digit mileage per year. *Note: 0 math was done in this calculation, but the allusion stands.

I wonder about pack safety when putting them into vehicles they weren’t designed around.  I also wonder about first responder safety if they’re not made aware the vehicle is a EV conversion.

I’ve always thought there is a market for EV conversion kits (or even full-on turnkey conversions) for the “hipster Benz” Diesel W123. This could become the “Singer of the Benz world”. Anyone with the knowhow want to collaborate on a prototype? Read more

I was embedded with the GM staff in the Chevrolet Performance group. A few of us were super excited seeing the EV tech.

There was a an EV Chevy pickup that was claimed to have a GM “Connect and Cruise” setup.  We’re probably not far off. Electric GT out of California offers a “crate” setup with form function similar to a V8 with a little extra length.  Read more

Ford and Chevrolet both displayed EV swapped drivetrains at SEMA, so the OEM’s are keen on the interest from the hot rod community. Hopefully they will offer complete kits to help us non-engineers be able to do the task. Read more
