Enjoys working on vehicles with poor reputations.

You forgot the problem every ‘90s Toyota has. Oil leaks. Rear main and Oil pan will leak like the Exxon Valdez if you don’t replace them. They will run former like this though if you don’t get to it quickly.

Great write-up and some of the best photos I’ve seen of a teardown. Good work. Also, it’s amazing to me that the parts you’re taking off are 24 years ago.

So glad to see factory parts used here. Difficult repairs (and critical parts) demand it. Neighbor cheaped out on a replacement starter for his Northstar Caddy (starter located in much the same place as the Lexus) and got to do that whole shitty job over again 6 months later. Read more

I feel your pain. Lately I’ve been turning the key on my Nissan Armada only to hear a click. Second time, it starts just fine. We sold the acerage and moved into the dreaded “neighborhood” on a postage stamp sized lot with a 3 car garage (i say that laughing because we barely get 2 cars in it). Read more

I don’t normally give stars to articles around here, but I wish I could give you more than one - for not only your detailed description of everything, but also your passion and dedication to this project. This was a labor of love that you can’t really put a price tag on, though the price financially and mentally was Read more

The key to having this all sort out in the end is to admit to yourself that (re) creating this car was as much a part of the enjoyment of ownership as driving it. I have reliable late model vehicles purchased at fair prices and I have older increasingly rare vehicles bought cheap and lovingly returned to service. I Read more
