Too late to edit my own comment, but if Elon is the genius he seems to be, the long-term exit strategy for Tesla would licensing their battery tech (and continue to improve it) and giving up on the incredible intensive world of car manufacturing. I think these vehicles will go down in history as test beds, or proof of Read more

There will come a point where Tesla’s vertical integration will stop being an advantage (that’s a 100-year-old business strategy) but for now they’re killing it. Read more

My parents are Q5 owners and crunched the numbers on the e-tron. Their conclusion was it’s just a lease option (not a great purchase decision). Which makes sense at the rate everything is changing... Read more

As a gaucho, I’m offended that Ford would appropriate our homeland for something as petty as a vehicle name. I’m not threatening them, just saying that if these start showing up burned on dealer lots, they shouldn’t be surprised. Read more

No, you don’t HAVE to be a 1%er to buy a Model 3 or Y...that’s just how it’s been shaking out, statistically. Tesla has some of the wealthiest and most educated buyers of any brand. Read more

VW brands have a huge presence in China, that’s where my mind is going. And VW has the manufacturing scale to jump straight into the mainstream segments, Read more

The three owners I know personally have had the mobile repair trucks come out for minor repairs, but one guy (who has an S and a 3) has had his cars flat-bedded over 100 miles away for 2-3 day trips. IIRC, one of those was a cracked windshield, can’t remember the other. Read more

Tesla started out more software-heavy and figured out the manufacturing later; VW is sort of doing it backwards. Not the first time either approach has resulted in delays. I’m still optimistic that they’ll deliver, even if heads have to roll. Read more
