The cat lady who writes about cars and motorsport. Former writer and editor at Jalopnik.

OK, now I’m bummed! It’s a shame to see you go Alanis, I’ve thuroghly enjoyed following your work all these years, plus I’m an F1 fanatic and general motorsport nut, and you’ve been a kindred spirit here at the Jalopshow. I wish you all the best at BI and wherever else your talents may take you. I’ll be sure to keep Read more

Eh, I don’t tolerate herbs or fools well. The rest of the staff is still here, and I trust Jalopnik’s in good hands with them so long as they walk into work each day with a gallon full of Herb-B-Gon. Read more

Great writing, Alanis. It reminds me of what it's like to monetize a hobby - it can sap the joy out of it but it doesn't have to. Thanks for the perspective 🤔 Read more

Well said, “In a lot of ways, working your dream job changes a lot of things about the very dream that got you there”. I’ve been lucky enough, through 100% dedication and sacrifice actually, to reach my dream job once in my life. Read more

Good Luck!  I am sorry to see you leave as I am sorry to see the other talented team members move on.  I’ve enjoyed your professionalism, your writing, and your devotion to cars. Read more

Thank you for being so vulnerable and introspective with this. It’s easy to forget that dream jobs are jobs, and that it takes proper perspective to help keep the fire stoked. I hope you always find a few minutes (or a whole session) to give the spark some light. Keep going! Read more

I’m reasonably convinced that when folks try to monetize something they love it quickly becomes an obligation and spoils pretty much all joy you get out of it. There are rewarding professions but they remain work. I get paid for my work, I freely share my passions. Read more

If they take away Torch and Fancy Kristen and weekend Max I’m out... Good luck on your next adventure.

I’ve been lucky to have spent a majority of my professional life in and around motorsports. While I enjoyed pretty much every day of it, seeing how the soup was made and the realities of the business side of motorsports has taken some of the mystique out of it. It’s gone from, “These drivers are gods” to “I remember Read more

Thanks for putting up with all of us, especially the dickwads that clearly need to learn how to talk to female. Thanks for taking me out of the gray. Most of all thanks for your taking the time to give us the thousands of words that you pounded out via keyboard for as long as you did. You’ll be missed here. Read more

I can relate, I have a side-gig for a major sports league at home games for a team I grew up idolizing. I have an all access pass to go anywhere in the stadium I want, including locker rooms. I have had some incredible experiences and been fortunate enough to witness everything that goes into putting on one of these Read more
