Tornadoes ripped through northwest Georgia this morning, overturning cars and trucks on Interstate 75 and demolishing homes and businesses, according to news reports.
The AP reports that most of the damage occurred in Adairsville, about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta. I-75 around the city is shut down in both directions due to overturned vehicles and intense damage. At least one person is dead, according to CNN. Tornado warnings remain in place for other areas in the state.
Reporters at WSB-TV described a chaotic scene from earlier this morning as the tornado tore through the city. Power lines are down, and police and other rescue workers are trying to navigate the debris.
