A suspension failure on the Brazilian veteran’s Williams race car at last week’s Monaco Grand Prix shows how fast and brutal a single error in Formula One can be.
The accident happened on lap 32 in the Beau Rivage straight, leaving Barrichello unable to control his car, which bounced along the Armco and came to rest right in the middle of Massenet corner, a fast left-hander on the way to Casino Square.
Nobody was injured—apart from Barrichello’s discarded steering wheel, which Hispania’s Karun Chandhok ran over—but the camera angle and especially the vicious crunch of carbon fiber on aluminum goes to show just how fast this whole thing is, even on a slow street circuit like Monaco.
