Utah prosecutors allege Jeffrey Mowen ran a Ponzi-scheme and took over $10 million from investors. Those ill-gotten gains funded a 200-plus vehicle collection now heading to auction. These cars finally prove money, no matter how it's acquired, can't buy taste.
Mr. Mowen was captured in Panama last year and US Marshalls seized his assets following the arrest. Those assets included over 200 cars scattered all over the state of Utah. There are some real... umm... interesting... vehicles included.
OK, screw that, the cars are just gross. Sure, there's some very nice vintage T-Birds and Panteras, but there's also a slew of vehicles of very questionable taste. Take, for instance, the propeller-powered trike, or perhaps a lifted Cadillac Escalade with an eye-watering paint job, and of course, what collection would be complete without a General Lee? Some real beauts in here folks, lots of questionable motorcycles and trikes, several replicars, lifted golf carts, and hey, even a Chevy Tracker!
The lot was set to go to sale in January but Mowen filed an injunction which the court eventually denied, now they're back on track to hit the auction block in North Salt Lake April first and second. (Thanks for the tip John!)
