Early internet content was incredibly cringey as folks figured out how to produce entertaining content. Recently when my totally normal brain told me to scour the internet for more information about the Dodge Caliber’s tailgate-mounted boombox, I stumbled across an old video on the Stellantis YouTube channel. Which naturally led me down a rabbit hole where I watched several cringey corporate YouTube videos from the late 2000s. The channel was formed in January of 2008, just months before the financial crisis kicked in and Chrysler got bailed out by the government. Anyone who is a late millennial and older may experience flashbacks from watching these videos, but I implore you to power through and watch at least a little bit of each of them.
Have modern corporate videos become less cringe? If the Stellantis YouTube channel is any indication, I’d say nominally. At least the production value has gone up and the auto show footage has mercifully been eliminated. Through exploring Stellantis’ oldest YouTube videos, I really felt my age. I remember seeing many of these vehicles at the LA Auto Show as a kid and I remember spending my allowance on car magazines to read the reviews about Chrysler’s then-new models. If you’re ready to go back in time, check out these wacky, cringey old YouTube videos.
