As you may know, I love big and dumb fixed rear wings. I think they are the ultimate expression of brashness, the visual equivalent of a foghorn that screams “BIG SERIOUS DOWNFORCE CAR COMING THROUGH.” The wing on the new Koenigsegg Jesko deserves its own special shoutout.
Koenigseggs have always had big wings, because they are cars with big engines that make big power. But the wing on this new car is something else. It’s nearly half the length of the entire car, if you count the stands. Those stands basically start from the car’s middle and are tastefully left as bare carbon fiber.
They bear Koenigsegg’s logo that’s shaped like a coat of arms in brushed metal, which is very cool. Acid-green paint accents their undersides.
Then the stands sweep way the hell back, topped at the end by a U-shaped wing that you could serve Thanksgiving dinner from. The number 251 is written on the sides, which represents the car’s chassis number.
From the front, the wing doesn’t look so massive, but when you head to the back, you can really see how giant it is. The rear end is quite tapered, which makes the wing look like it’s rearing up above it, almost levitating. That optical effect is no doubt because the stands are mounted to the car far from the wing.
Y’all, I am obsessed. It’s so stupid and cartoonish and amazing. The Jesko apparently produces over 2,200 pounds of downforce at 170 mph, according to Apex One, and I’m willing to bet that most of that force comes from the wing.
I’d be curious to know if you’d be able to see anything behind the car from the driver’s seat with that wing, but then again, you’re in a Koenigsegg. You probably only have to worry about what’s in front of you.
