Since the dawn of humanity, people everywhere have celebrated the new year with one special, sacred event: The Detroit Auto Show. But this is the last year America’s biggest auto show will be held in January, as it moves to sunny June next year. That means we need to send the winter’s big car showcase off in style one final time with our annual readers vs. writers karting race. You in?
Once again—and the last time we’ll all need coats to do it—we’re throwing a huge reader party with our friends at Kart 2 Kart in Sterling Heights, Michigan right before the auto show on Saturday, January 12. We’ll be having a mini-grand prix event and trophy dash open to all you fine readers, and we’ll see once and for all if you are faster than me, Kristen Lee, Justin Westbrook, David Tracy and a few of our special friends. (You probably will be!)
This is one of our finest traditions at Jalopnik and one of the most fun events we throw all year, so if you’re in Metro Detroit or the surrounding area, you should try and come. We’d love to see you.
We’ll have food and sodas provided, and in addition to hanging out with fine like-minded gearheads, we’ll have a trivia contest where you can win some sweet Jalop swag. And the tricycle race is coming back!

We’ll see you in Detroit!
