Mark this day down in the history of all great things automotive, folks, because I’m here to deliver some great, wonderful, incredible news. Idris Elba, one of greatest (and dare I add debonair) actors of our time, is joining the Fast & Furious franchise for their spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. Oh, hell yeah.

The spin-off is based on Luke Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (played by Jason Statham) from The Fate of the Furious. The chemistry between the film’s reformed villain Shaw and Diplomatic Security Service agent Hobbs was so undeniable that they went ahead and decided to make a whole dang movie about ‘em.

And yes, the Idris Elba will be playing the role of Brixton, who appears to be the film’s central antagonist. Now, there’s not much to speculate from, but oh baby am I interested.

All of you naysayers who think the franchise should stop being milked can leave. It is far too late for that argument at this point, so we might as well all kick back and enjoy this wonderful star-studded cast acting out a questionable plot line full of action and kick-assery (and you know you’re going to see it anyway, so don’t @ me).

Elba is a pretty big car guy, so it’s not a wholly out-there choice. He starred in Idris Elba: King of Speed, a BBC documentary examining the underground racing scene and how high-speed cars have changed the automotive landscape. It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it, and it was made to promo Grand Basel.

Hell yeah. I’m down. I’m in. Let’s do this. I am ready to wholeheartedly welcome Idris Elba to the world of Fast & Furious.
