Volkswagen, seemingly unmoved by the extremely divisive and weak-selling Nissan Murano Crosscabriolet, announced plans to introduce a new convertible model based on its recently revealed T-Roc crossover in 2020. That’s right, folks, time is a circle and so we’re doing the convertible crossover thing again.

Volkswagen plans to invest over $98 million to build what could possibly be called the T-Roc Cabriolet in Germany, according to Motor1.

The company’s announcement included the above rendering, which seems to feature a folding hard-top two-door crossover. Considering the T-Roc has only just gone on sale, it’s kind of crazy for VW to go this extreme with it. Who did they poll in their market research? Who are these people? What do they currently drive?

The previously revealed normal T-Roc was launched in the European market back in November, and it seems that VW quizzically doesn’t have any plans to bring it to America. We may be safe from the prospect of another Crosscab.

Then again, I feel like a smaller crossover is better suited for this treatment, and I could see myself actually liking it? It’s better that it stays in Europe, maybe.
