Turbochargers are good and nice, but they’re everywhere these days, from humble midsize sedans all the way up to the supercars. That’s what makes the Porsche 911 GT3 RS so special: it puts out a certifiably insane amount of power from just six cylinders, all with no turbos. Now for 2018, it’s getting what we all craved most: slightly more power!
The updated GT3 RS showed up on the internet due to an apparent fuckup by Australia’s Drive, as the story’s now been pulled because it was probably accidentally posted ahead of the embargo or something like that. But Motor1 and other outlets grabbed the details anyway, and it reports the GT3 RS’ 4.0-liter flat six now makes 520 horsepower, up from 500 HP last year. The engine also redlines to 9,000 RPM, which is just about the best thing ever, if you ask me.
Other updates include a retuned rear-wheel-steering system and some aerodynamic and cosmetic tweaks.
The downside: still no manual for the RS, only a PDK dual-clutch gearbox. You can get a six-speed manual on the lesser (I use that term very loosely here) GT3, though one hero took it upon himself to make his own manual RS. We should all be more like him.
Anyway, it looks awesome. I’m gonna buy four of them.
