A New York City cop has been injured after trying to stop what appears to be a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG from drifting through Times Square, and the incident was all caught on video.
A law enforcement source in a report from the New York Post said the officer suffered minor injuries to his chest, hip and leg. The following video could be considered graphic for some viewers:
The source of the video is unclear. Jalopnik has reached out to the uploader of this clip for clarification and will update with any new developments.
For some reason, cars doing burnouts in Times Square is a relatively common occurrence, despite the obvious danger of driving like an idiot around so many people in one of the busiest areas of the city. You can see the Mercedes was flanked by a Dodge Challenger and Nissan GT-R.
Judging from the front bumper and fog lights, it would appear this is a 2011 or newer C63 AMG. The license plate number isn’t very clear from the video, but its color scheme seems to give it away as a New York plate.
The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday, and it’s very likely that the NYPD is very interested in hunting this driver down. It will be interesting to see if anything is implemented to prevent people from driving like idiots in Times Square in the future.
