I consider myself something of a proponent of weird cars, and while the Hyundai Veloster never managed to be the best hatchback you could buy, I was always glad it existed in all of its three-door squat strangeness. Fortunately, unlike some brands, Hyundai is keeping the weird alive and the Veloster is coming back for a new generation. Here it is before you’re supposed to see it.
Spy photographers caught the new Veloster running around for a night photo shoot, and it definitely pops in this vibrant red color. The car’s expected to use a version of the 2018 Elantra chassis, and as these things go, it should be wider and longer than the Veloster it replaces.
The good news here is that while the old Veloster Turbo was... decent, but not great, in addition to that model there’s expected to also be a new high-performance Veloster N topping the range. Hyundai’s been trying to up its performance game lately, so here’s hoping the N will turn out to be a true GTI competitor for the first time ever.
But it keeps the weird doors! That’s something to be happy about.
