That Phone Number Elon Musk Tweeted Takes You To A God Of War Easter Egg

Earlier today, it seemed like Elon Musk tweeted out his own phone number. But, after we called the number, it brought us to the same voice message that you get if you dial the number from a God of War Easter egg.

This connection was first figured out by our friend, Heather, over at Kotaku. Apparently, after you beat the game, you can break these two statues and get a code. If you figure out the code, you get a phone number to call.

Since I’ve never played God of War and I’m too lazy to get all the way to the end of the game and get the code myself, I found the phone number online: it’s 1-888-447-5594. I called it and listened to the message. It was the exact same message that played when I called the number that Elon tweeted out.

This is what you hear (starting at the 2:17 mark):

Basically, when you call, Kratos, a character in God of War, picks up and congratulates you for finding the Easter egg. He’s interrupted by David Jaffe, the game’s director. Jaffe then berates anybody for getting the code from the internet or a magazine as being lazy (whoops).

Then, there’s the sound of Kratos drawing a big blade and then hacking Jaffe to death, and he tells you that you’ll meet again.

Again, this was almost certainly an Elon prank and a very dumb one at that.

On the upside, at least now you’ve just learned a new number to give to the creep at the bar so they leave you alone.

We’ve emailed Tesla to ask if Elon is a God of War fan and if he set the message for that number on purpose. We will update if we hear back.
