Somewhere a beaver is looking at this ridiculous Macau Grand Prix pile-up and thinking, “man, I wish I my dams were that effective.” All but four cars in the FIA GT World Cup qualifying race got crammed into one corner after a crash near the front of the field acted as an impromptu car-dam, blocking all exits.
The crash happened on the very first lap of a qualifying race after the Porsche 911 GT3 R of reigning FIA GT World Cup champion Laurens Vanthoor collided with Daniel Juncadella’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 after Juncadella hit the barrier at Police Corner, reports Sportscar365. The collision immediately brought out a red flag halting the race.
Only four drivers made it back into the pits ahead of the Great Wall of Cars: Augusto Farfus, Edoardo Mortara, Maro Engel and Raffaele Marciello. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the pile-up. The qualifying race was eventually restarted, with Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver Edoardo Mortara claiming pole position for tomorrow’s main event.
Since it’s worth mentioning again, let me point out that this was a qualifying race. Qualifying race! Not even the main show! That’s like going out to a six-hour enduro and eating wall on the out-lap!

The Macau Grand Prix is exceptionally ridiculous every year, as its tiny streets don’t seem to be built for larger modern sports cars—or anything else, for that matter. Big pile-ups in its four-wheel races aren’t just likely, they’re a given.
