Show Us The First Car Your Parents Let You Drive

Everyone has an official “first car” that they buy shortly after they get their driver’s license. The first car I purchased was a 1985 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo convertible. But that’s not really the first vehicle I ever drove regularly. It was just the first car that I could call mine.

The first car I really drove with any amount of frequency was a 2001 Pontiac Montana minivan. The only photo I have of it was taken on an iPhone 3GS several years ago. Old minivans are coming back into chic again and that’s mostly a good thing because many of them were genuinely useful crap haulers that a lot of people overlook.

This was not one of those vans. It held all the quality of early 2000's GM engineering which is just slightly better than being held together with hot glue and painter’s tape. I drove it for a few months until I sold it. But I thank my parents for letting me have that first taste of automotive freedom.
