Thanks to a friend’s Facebook post, it came to my attention that Galaxie 500, the wonderful Massachusetts shoegaze band named after a Ford, turned 30 this year.

Maybe you disagree, but Galaxie 500 is an ideal band to drive to—sprawling songs with straightforward instrumentation and a dreamy production style. They’re particularly nice during lengthy, overnight treks. Nothing too loud or frenetic, like My Bloody Valentine or Ride can get at times. So the Ford-themed name has always felt appropriate.
