Good morning. If you’re driving a Hummer with an empty casket on top, and the fuzz tries to pull you over—mostly because that’s not the way that caskets are normally transported—consider complying. Otherwise, you may end up like Kevin M. Cholousky, 39, who was arrested and charged last week with driving with fictitious tags, reckless driving and fleeing for not, according to ArkansasOnline.
Should one be allowed to transport an empty casket on top of their Hummer without drawing the attention of police? Sure. This is America. But this is also Arkansas, where, on Wednesday, a police officer got curious. From ArkansasOnline:
Earlier that evening, an officer spotted a black Hummer with a casket strapped to the top heading east on Interstate 30 near Scott Hamilton Drive, spokesman Danny Straessle said.
Authorities “noticed that this was an unusual sight” and pulled the Hummer over to see if the driver, Cholousky, needed some assistance, Straessle said.
That’s when Cholousky fled, Straessle said. Authorities pursued him as he took an exit onto southbound I-530 and was eventually stopped by road spikes at mile marker 25 near Jefferson, the report said.
One witness told KARK that she talked to Cholousky several hours before the chase, and, “He was telling me he had went and bought him a Hummer, he went and bought him a casket and that he was terminally ill.”
The station wasn’t able to confirm those details. Still, I’ll just say that, without getting too deep into Trump-era metaphors, riding around in a Hummer, certain you will die, and carrying the box you want to be buried in is hitting a bit close to home.
