Pour some out for the American cousin of Top Gear and its affable hosts Rutledge Wood, Tanner Foust and Adam Ferrara. Tuesday night’s episode of Top Gear USA on the History Channel will be the show’s last—at least for now, and on that network.
The news comes to us from Rutledge’s Instagram page, where a post implies the show was canceled by the network. “I’m not saying Top Gear USA is done, but it’s done for the immediate future on History,” he said.
The post says this doesn’t mean the show is over, just that it needs to find a new home—and very possibly could be done if it doesn’t.
It’s a bummer for sure. While TGUSA didn’t become the cultural force that the Clarkson, May and Hammond original did—they’re a hard act to follow for anyone, as we’re learning with the revamped British show now—the three hosts and their crew clearly put a ton of love into what they did.
And while American car television shows are often terrible, full of fake deadlines, scripted faux drama and unlikable celebrities, Top Gear USA will be remembered as one of the better ones by far, on every level.
Here’s hoping it can find a new home somewhere else, and soon.
