Sometimes when you’re behind the wheel of a potent American muscle car at high speeds on a track with walls super close to the asphalt, well... shit happens. Ask me how I know this! And the poor bastard behind the wheel of this 2017 Camaro Z/28 mule knows it now too, at the Nürburgring no less.
This spy video shows the new Z/28—a mysterious but menacing-looking machine wrapped in swirly camo—going into a long left-hander at the Green Hell when his rear brakes lock up, sending the car’s front right side into a wall. They then unceremoniously put a shroud over the car and loaded it onto a trailer.
It doesn’t look like the damage to the mule was too severe, and by the looks of the wreck no one was hurt, which is good. We’ve certainly seen far worse wrecks at the ‘Ring, and this is the kind of thing that’s supposed to happen during testing. (Well, maybe not supposed to happen, but it does.)
I wonder if they kicked him out afterward? They do that sometimes.
Anyway, we don’t know much about the new Z/28 quite yet. The video description says it’s a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 like the Cadillac ATS-V has, but that sounds like a throaty V8 to me.
I can’t wait to drive it. I promise to at least try and be a bit more gentle this time! And for the guy who stuffed the car into the wall at the ‘Ring: try not to let it get you down too much.
