Just yesterday Foxtrot Alpha gave the world its first glimpse of DARPA’s submarine hunting unmanned drone ship. Now the Pentagon’s “bleeding-edge” research and development arm has followed suit, showing new angles of the ship on its Instagram account.
Sea Hunter’s props are reminiscent of those found on an Arlegh Burke class destroyer, albeit on a much smaller scale. It’s general design is like a militarized version of the mainly composite-constructed trimarans that have been part of Sea Shepherd’s anti-whaling fleet and featured on the show Whale Wars.
Make sure to read all about Sea Hunter and the
Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel, or ACTUV for short, concept in this previous in-depth Foxtrot Alpha feature.
