I hate to say I told you so, but we pretty much called it a couple of month ago, and it turns out Mazda was also listening to all who demanded a sporty crossover that’s almost exactly like a wagon but slightly taller overall to fit your active lifestyle.

While we thought Mazda’s Koeru concept was at the Frankfurt Motor Show to show us what the 2016 Mazda CX-9 will look like at two sizes up, Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai instead told Automotive News that it’s in fact a brand new vehicle and something they currently don’t offer in their lineup.

Namely, Mazda’s very own Subaru Outback. Kogai put it this way:

It’s a totally new car. It’s a lower, sporty SUV. It’s close to a wagon. The CX-9 rides higher. So does the CX-3 and CX-5. The Koeru aims to generate more driving pleasure.

What do you say America? Are your ready for a more sporty version of the already pretty good CX-5? More importantly, would you choose that over a Subaru?

Alright everybody, give us another five years, and wagons will be back!
