Mustang. Pony car. Ponies. Horses. But how many horse-powers does the 2015 Shelby GT350 put out with its magical, naturally-aspirated, America-tacular flat plane crank 5.2-liter V8? Now we know for realsies: 526 horsepower, 429 pound-feet of torque.
That is a lot of horsepowers. Yes it is.
The GT350’s power output was finally revealed at a special media event at their headquarters in Dearborn, the kind of media event that probably involved a short presentation but no driving. There were probably snacks though.
But you don’t care about that. You care about horsepower, because you are a patriot. Well, this is Ford’s most powerful naturally-aspirated engine, EVER, and their highest-revving V8, EVER, with a staggering redline of 8,250 RPM.
The only gearbox on the GT350 will be a six-speed Tremec manual. You will shift the gears yourself because you are not a coward.
The engine has many other features that sound violent and high tech and amazing. Take it away, Ford:
Further reducing engine weight is a unique new aluminum engine block featuring Ford’s patented plasma transferred wire arc cylinder-liner technology. This process eliminates typical heavy iron cylinder liners with an electroplate coating. The forged-steel flat-plane crankshaft is “gun drilled” to reduce total engine weight and to improve bay-to-bay cylinder breathing. A lightweight, high-capacity composite oil pan contains baffling designed for sustained high-speed cornering and hard braking.
PLASMA. GUN DRILLED. HARD BRAKING.
The GT350 and tracktacular GT350R go on sale this fall. Get some.
