As a comic who goes to a lot of open mics, I’ve heard just about every “women are bad drivers” joke there is. And now, thanks to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, we know that those jokes aren’t just hacky, they’re also factually inaccurate.

The data shows that men are about twice as likely as women to be involved in a fatal car crash:

As our friends at Vox point out, there are a few contributing factors here, the biggest one being that men drive drunk more often than women.

Women aren’t completely off the hook, though: they are involved in more non-fatal injury crashes and property damage crashes than men.
