We're pretty amped about the debut of the 2016 Ford Focus RS tomorrow, and even more amped that it's coming to America. But surprisingly, there's still quite a but we don't know about it, especially when it comes to how it will put down all that power.
Right now we're about certain it will have a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo inline four, sourced from the new Mustang and Lincoln MKC, with a bare minimum of 300 horsepower; probably more. That's pretty much a lock.
The biggest question is whether it will go all-wheel drive, to better compete with more expensive performance cars like the Golf R and WRX STI, or if it will retain the front-wheel drive layout of the Focus ST and previous generation RS-es.
Guess what? Nobody else seems to know yet, either. Road & Track says AWD; the UK's CAR Magazine says front-wheel drive with a "concoction of differentials and electronic nannies to make sure that the front tires aren't pulverized at every T-junction."
I think it will go all-wheel drive, but my dear colleague Travis has a hunch it will stay a front-driver. Honestly, I'd be happy either way, because I'm just glad we're getting it.
