"Rebel green" paint job, black hood stripes, and a crimson roof, brake calipers and mirrors: yep, the 2015 Mini John Cooper Works looks bonkers. Just as it should. And in addition to that radical color scheme, we now have a price tag: $30,600.
Of course, that's the starting price tag. These things tend to get crazy the more you pile on the options. But as a base, that's not too bad for a drive that should be pretty fun. And can we talk more about that coloring?
This is a car that should not be subtle in any way. Minis are supposed to stand out from the crowd by being loud and cute and ridiculous. That should be even more true in the worked-over version of the new Cooper Hardtop, the most powerful Mini ever made.
Here the car's 2.0-liter turbocharged BMW engine puts out 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It can do zero to 60 in just a tick over six seconds with the six-speed, paddle shift automatic. It's also got other JCW enhancements, like an electronic locking differential, a beefed up suspension, Brembo brakes and optional adjustable dampers.
It's nuts, and that's why I like it.
