When you start up an entirely new car company, you've got to come up with a creative and often-unpronounceable name for your new product, like the Pagani Huayra. But when you've got a long and deep well of history to draw from, you can afford to re-use a name.

I'd go ahead and say the new Ford GT is a great use of an old nameplate on an entirely new vehicle. It's not like it's merely a new generation of a slightly older car, either, like the new Ford Raptor. It's a massive departure from the old GT, which will have been out of production for a whole decade by the time this one goes on sale, and the GT40 before it. Gone is the V8, the retro design, and the cutaway doors. In goes a twin-turbo V6, an incredibly fresh and bold look, and some sweet, sweet butterflies.

Sure, they're both mid-engined, have four wheels, and are bound to go racing, but that's really the only things the new and the old GT have in common.
